The Power of Makeup

Hello everyone!

Why do you use makeup? Who do you want to impress? These are questions which we are subjected by friends, family and even strangers when we wear makeup often; and lately it seems to be a crime to wear it, because with phrases of admiration for your makeup there are also destructive criticism that reveal an underlying problem beyond if you like makeup or not.

It is sad to realize how stereotypes of both men and women tend to attack one or the other option:

If you do not wear makeup...

  •  You're careless.
  • You're not going to please others.
  • You're not feminine.
  • You have low self-esteem.

 If you wear makeup...

  •  You're vain.
  • You do it to "find a husband."
  • You should not do it, men don’t like makeup.
  • You have low self-esteem.

And a long list of meaningless phrases that I will not include ... have you realized that I repeated low self-esteem in both situations?

The Power of Makeup

Last year the vlogger NikkieTutorials made a video called "The Power of Makeup" to demonstrate the transformation that can be achieved through makeup and explained why she thinks people who like to use it should not be demonized. She only did a makeup on half of her face and left the other half free, explaining why she liked makeup and the advantages it brings to her.

This was Nikki’s look for the video, photography by Softexter

This video caused a great impact, and in response, many people around the world -until today- have posted his picture on Instagram with the hashtag #ThePowerofMakeup to show that use or not use is a personal choice and should not be judged.

It's my turn…

Personally I wear makeup because I like to see the change in my face, how the colors look and stand out my strengths; moreover, it is a way to express my creativity and have fun ... well, I wear makeup for and by me. But also I have no problem going face washed, it all depends on how I feel and how I want to see myself during the day.

And perhaps it is an odd statement, but I take it as ”ego masturbation"... because on one hand I like how I look with makeup, while at the same time I have the chance to show what I can do in this area.

Using makeup or not shouldn’t be a matter of jeer, because each person has their tastes and the right to express the way they choose to(as long as you do no harm to others); and change begins with each of us accepting diversity and not attacking the other by the way they look or the methods used to do so (in this case the makeup).

And why do you wear makeup? Do you dare to accept the challenge of The Power of Makeup?

Thanks for coming, you are welcome to like and share with your friends.

Until the next post!
